Carroll Buchanan Film Series

Established by Dr. Carroll Buchanan (below) in 2006 and later named after him, the series features films about famous African American personalities and historical events. The film series is now under the direction of Mr. Robert E. Fitzgerald, pictured below on the right. The films are shown on Saturdays at the North Sarasota Public Library during the fall, winter and spring months. Films have included Strange Fruit about the life of Billie Holiday, The PBS Documentary film, The Black Atlantic … 1500 to 1800, episode one of the six-part PBS series, The African Americans: Many Rivers to Cross with Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr., and Brother Outsider: The Life of Bayard Rustin, and The Middle Passage. The series is open to the public.
